Compliance with research ethics and data protection principles is the foundation of researcher in the digital space. However, the new research field of gaming (-adjacent) platforms raises specific issues that have received little attention to date. RadiGaMe is therefore developing a handout in which research ethics issues are elaborated and solutions are presented to serve as a basis for further research.
Security and law enforcement agencies face similar issues. RadiGaMe is therefore working on specifying the legal and ethical requirements for investigations of group-related communication content on messenger services and gaming (-adjacent) platforms. At the end of the research project, a practice-oriented guideline is to be developed, which will provide a basis for ethically justifiable and legally compliant handling of data collection and evaluation of radicalisation-specific data from gaming (-adjacent) platforms by security authorities.
